Our Top 5 Unconventional Christmas Songs

It’s that time of the year again, which means you’ll probably be listening to ‘Last Christmas’ about a dozen times this festive season. Here at Music Bloggery, we’ve picked a few alternative original Christmas songs and covers which have been left under the radar, and might provide your Christmas playlist with a bit of variation.

5. All Time Low – Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

Pop punk rockers All Time Low have some fun on this Christmas track, which is probably one of my favourites due to the sheer playfulness. Because if you can’t laugh about being dumped at Christmas then what can you laugh at? Check out the equally playful music video below.

4. Pentatonix ft. Tori Kelly – Winter Wonderland/Don’t Worry Be Happy

Making a change from a cheeky bit of Michael Bublé, this upbeat mash-up by acapella group Pentatonix featuring musician Tori Kelly, is a beautiful marriage of two almost completely different songs in theme, and makes for a pretty good Christmas song all in all.

3. Marina and the Diamonds – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

While it certainly doesn’t beat the Judy Garland original, Marina’s unique soprano tones give this song a beautifully celestial tone, and certainly works hard to give the original song justice.

2. Louis Prima – Pennies From Heaven

Having grown up watching the movie Elf probably 4802482 times a year, this track is best attributed to Buddy’s New York montage and for me, this is the epitome of Christmas. Everything about this song makes you want to boogie (if anyone even uses that word any more) and it’ll spruce up any Christmas playlist for years to come.

1. The Drums – I’ll Be Home for Christmas

Having discovered this song while travelling on a cold coach home for Christmas, this song holds a special place in my heart, especially because it is performed by The Drums (probably the best thing to happen to surf rock). Frontman Jonny Pierce’s dulcet tones work well for this drowsy, soothing track. Check it out below.
